As nation mourns racist murders, Confederate Flag of hate still flies over South Carolina
By Jon Queally, Common Dreams
This isn't the story about a flag, but there's a flag in this story.
On the same day the nation was reeling from the mass murder of nine black churchgoers in South Carolina by a calculating white gunman who reportedly made it clear to his victims the attack was inspired by racial hatred, the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday June 18 issued a ruling saying that the state of Texas is within its right to refuse the depiction of the Confederate flag on personalized

Charleston - A history of attacks on black churches in the South
In the wake of the heinous murders of nine members of Charleston's Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church this week, many have pointed to historic congregation's central role in the city's African-American community.
As Clementa Pinckney, the church's pastor and state legislator who was killed in the shooting, told a group of visitors in 2013, "It's a very special place because this site, this area, has been tied to the history and life of African Americans since about the early 1800s."

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule by the end of this month in King v. Burwell, a case challenging the legality of health insurance subsidies for low- and middle-income residents of the 34 states that use the federal marketplace under the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The lawsuit was brought by four residents of Virginia, which is among the states that opted not to set up their own insurance exchanges and instead rely on the federal one.
In all, almost 6.4 million

Why the South Became Republican: How Presidents Are Elected (1992)
Politics of the Southern United States (or Southern politics) refers to the political landscape of the Southern United States. Due to the region's unique cultural and historic heritage, the American South has been prominently involved in numerous political issues faced by the United States as a whole, including States' rights, slavery, Reconstruction and the American Civil Rights Movement. Lift Every Voice: The Naacp and the Making of the Civil Rights Movement
When Africa is featured in the news, the coverage all too often consists of solely negative images. Content focused on starving children, humanitarian crises, poverty and illness leaves little room for a broader picture of the continent's more than 50 different countries.
In an effort to change that, Africa's diverse nations have taken to Twitter en masse to share images -- ranging from food to fashion to architecture and landscapes. Their photos, posted under the hashtag
